Mr. Nickie Smith
We
I created the Life Skills program at
Commerce Middle School in 2009. Prior to
being part of the CMS team I taught
Elementary in Punta Gorda, Belize. Prior to my teaching career I served in the military . I was trained as a professional Chef and cooked for admirals, diplomats and dignitaries,( I even had the opportunity to cook for the cast of Star Trek ). I graduated from Texas A&M University-Commerce. My degrees include a Bachelor of Science- Interdisciplinary Studies with a major in Early Childhood Development, a Masters in Elementary Education ,and a Master’s in Education Administration. I have received certificates in Ec-4th Generalist, All Level Special Education, and all Level Principal. I have been married for 16 years and I have two daughters and a son. When I am not teaching I am a local rancher. I raise Angus and Hereford cattle. I enjoy hunting, cooking and fishing.
We had a great first semester in Life Skills. We learned a lot of new topics and had a good time during Special Olympics Bowling. It is hard to believe that we are in the second semester. We are looking forward to the upcoming Special Olympics Track and Field season. This year I am excited to teach a culinary Arts class called "Cooking Without Borders."
